How to Run Starlink Through a 4WD Canopy or Caravan

Starlink has become a popular addition to 4WD, caravan and touring setups, but getting the cable neatly through a canopy or caravan wall can be awkward.

Running the cable through an open door or temporary hole works, but for a permanent setup there are much cleaner ways to create a dedicated Starlink pass-through point.

Why add a permanent Starlink connection?

If Starlink travels with the vehicle, repeatedly feeding the cable through a window, door or hatch gets old pretty quickly.

A dedicated connection point lets you keep the internal wiring in place and connect your Starlink equipment from outside when you arrive at camp.

That means:

• Less cable running through doors and windows
• A cleaner permanent installation
• Faster setup and pack-down
• Less messing around with internal wiring
• A dedicated location for your Starlink connection

RJ45 or barrel connector?

The connection you need depends on which Starlink setup and hardware you're using.

Always check which connection your particular Starlink hardware requires before ordering or cutting the panel.

Combine Starlink with your other connections

Your Starlink connection doesn't necessarily need its own separate mounting plate.

If the same area already has Anderson or Deutsch connections, combining them can give you a much cleaner installation.

For example, you could have a Starlink pass-through alongside:

• 50A Anderson power
• Solar input
• Deutsch accessory connection
• Other canopy power connections

That keeps the main external connections together instead of spreading separate brackets across the canopy.

Plan where it will go

Before cutting the panel, think about where you'll actually stand when setting Starlink up.

The connection should be easy to reach without putting the cable somewhere it's likely to be damaged, crushed or constantly in the way.

Also check what's behind the panel. Leave enough room for the connector, internal cable and a sensible cable path.

Build it into the canopy
