From Concept to Creation: How We Bring Custom Ideas to Life

It’s more than a tagline at Fab Lab Co. — it’s pretty much exactly what we do.
Some jobs start with a finished drawing. Others start with a broken part, a rough sketch, a few measurements or simply:
“I need something that does this.”
From there, we work through the design, manufacture and finishing to turn that idea into a real part.
It starts with the problem
You don't need to have the solution worked out before getting in touch.
For a custom electrical mount, we might only need:
- The connectors you want to use
- The space available
- A few basic measurements
- Photos of the installation
- Any existing holes or cut-outs we need to work around
A rough sketch is often more than enough to get the conversation started.
From concept...
Once we understand what the part needs to do, we can turn the idea into a CAD model.
This is where we work through the details — dimensions, connector positions, mounting points, clearances and anything unique to the installation.
For custom work, the design can also be checked before manufacture so we're both looking at the same thing before it becomes a physical part.
...to creation
Once the design is sorted, we manufacture the part here in Australia.
For our electrical mounting range, that means producing the mount, gasket and required components before checking and finishing the completed assembly.
The end result isn't a generic part that's been made to sort of work.
It's a part designed around the job from the beginning.
Not everything needs to start from scratch
A lot of custom electrical setups can already be created using our Surface Build Your Way or Flush Mount Build Your Way systems.
There are also dedicated options for 3 Pin Anderson Plug Mounts and Starlink RJ45 Surface Mounts.
But when the standard options don't work, that's where custom design comes in.
